Nāti News March Update

Kia ora koutou,

This month, we wanted to take a moment to explain a bit more about who we are at Nāti Growth, what we do and how we fit within the wider Ngati Porou group.

Who is Nāti Growth?

Nāti Growth helps grow opportunities for Ngati Porou. In simple terms, we manage the commercial assets of the iwi, targeting asset growth and financial returns through investments and business activity. We balance creating local jobs for our people, economic growth for future generations and providing annual dividends for distributions, grants, social and cultural programmes that are run through the wider iwi.

Nāti Growth works with our wider iwi network, businesses, government and industry partners.

How we fit in

We are part of a wider group where each organisation has its own role:

Te Rūnanganui o Ngati Porou – provides leadership and representation on behalf of our iwi by setting our strategic direction, government advocacy, engagement with and reporting back to our people.

Toitū Ngati Porou – provides our benefits programme via sponsorships, grants and community initiatives aimed to meet the goals and needs of our people, and to foster our Ngati Poroutanga.

Ngati Porou Oranga – focuses on health and wellbeing by delivering a number of government health and social services in our community.

Nāti Growth – grows our assets and income through a geographically and industry diverse portfolio of investments and business, which funds distributions to the rest of the group to deliver social and cultural programmes.

Together, these entities work in a complementary way — with Oranga focusing on wellbeing, Toitū on benefits programme and cultural initiatives, Te Rūnanganui on leadership and representation and Nāti Growth on economic development, opportunity creation and distributions back into the wider group.

Why this matters

Strong economic development and investment provides funds to meet the wider objectives of our iwi. Through our distributions, business activity  and job creation, we aim to grow the intergenerational prosperity of Ngati Porou.

A hearty Ngati Horsewomen: Rore Aupouri

Tuhimoana — known as Rore — of Te Aupōuri is our Makarika Station Manager.

The mahi is tough, but for Rore, farming, training her dogs, and riding horseback isn’t just a job — it’s a lifestyle she lives, breathes, and loves.

Listen to Far from Town below to hear her full story.
